Medication Safety

St. John’s Health System continues to embrace a leadership role in promoting medication safety. Our ongoing efforts to ensure medication safety are evident throughout our integrated health system.

 Examples include:

  • St. John’s Medication Safety Committee.
Our dedicated committee develops strategies for safe medication use, monitors medication use practices throughout the hospital, and provides ongoing medication safety education to physicians, nurses and pharmacists.

  • St. John’s Medication Safety Department.
We established a permanent department with three full-time co-workers dedicated to working with front-line hospital co-workers to promote medication safety practices.
  • Investment of more than $4 million in new technology.
St. John’s nurses and pharmacists use integrated new technology that adds numerous safeguards in the processes of drug dispensing and patient medication administration.

As new patient medication safety guidelines or strategies emerge, St. John’s stands ready to adapt our hospital environment and embrace any change in process or procedure proven to benefit our patients
