Allegretto Wave® with PerfectPulse Technology™

St. John’s Clinic - Eye Specialists is the only eye center in Missouri
to offer the Allegretto Wave® laser technology.
Delivering 200 laser
pulses per second, the Allegretto Wave with PerfectPulse Technology™
reduces the fixation time of the patient under the laser and results in
less dehydration of the cornea, which may positively impact post
operative recovery and account for more precise outcomes.
"Although LASIK has earned an excellent safety profile, many patients
are concerned about the length of the procedure," said Missy Wooldridge,
refractive surgery coordinator. “When we can tell patients the average
treatment time is less than 12 seconds per eye – rather than 30 or even
60 seconds with competing technologies – they are instantly more
comfortable with the procedure. Faster treatments are also safer for the
patient because the procedure can be completed before the cornea becomes
dehydrated.”
The Allegretto Wave’s PerfectPulse Technology provides true customized
procedures, unlike many eye lasers. The Allegretto automatically
determines each individual’s unique pre-operative corneal curvature and
provides a treatment that not only corrects nearsightedness and
farsightedness, but also maintains the cornea’s natural shape following
treatment. Unlike other conventional lasers that can provide an
incomplete treatment to the periphery of the cornea, PerfectPulse
Technology applies additional treatment to the outer edges of the cornea
to reduce the likelihood of induced optical imperfections.
The increased precision of the laser not only cuts the procedure time,
it also increases the accuracy to the point where enhancement
procedures – additional touch up procedures – are nearly eliminated.
“The national average for enhancements is around 10 percent,”
Wooldridge said. “The Allegretto average is less than 1 per cent.”
The entire process is as pain free as the procedure. It begins with a
free consultation in which the clinic determines if the patient is a
candidate for the surgery. The patients are given information about how
the procedure works. LASIK surgery corrects near sightedness, far
sightedness and stigmatisms.
A
second appointment is made in which the physician dilates the eye to
check for overall optic health as well as making measurements for the
surgery. The surgical appointment follows, often within a day or two of
that second appointment.
The surgical process takes about two hours, but most of that is getting
prepped for the surgery, Wooldridge said. “The patient actually only
spends about 10 minutes in the surgical suite,” Wooldridge said. From
that point, the patient has six post-operative follow up appointments
over the course of a year to check the progress.
Both James Gessler, M.D. and Shachar Tauber, M.D., are utilizing the
Allegretto laser. “The outcomes are astonishing,” Wooldridge said. “We
couldn't be more excited to offer such leading-edge technology at
St. John’s. I think patients will really see the difference the
Allegretto will make.”
