St. John’s Vascular Screenings detect
variety of conditions
Oct. 31, 2005
St. John’s
Vascular Center offers reduced-rate screenings every Wednesday 9 a.m. – 2:30
p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. The screenings are recommended if
you are over the age of 50, are a smoker or diabetic and/or have high
cholesterol.
The $60 painless screening includes an ankle brachial index for
peripheral vascular disease; ultrasound of the neck to screen for
carotid blockage and an ultrasound of the abdomen to screen for abdominal aortic
aneurysm.
Adults over the age of 50 are at risk for a variety of vascular conditions. Risk
increases for smokers, diabetics and those with high blood pressure or high
cholesterol.
Because the screenings are offered at a reduced rate, payment must be made at
time of service. Insurance cannot be billed. Appointments are required, so
please call 1-866-8233 or 417-820-3302 to make an appointment or for additional
information.
Representatives from St. John’s
interventional cardiologists,
interventional radiologists,
cardiovascular surgeons, primary care
physicians and general vascular surgeons teamed to create the St. John’s
Vascular Center last year.
Patients may be referred to the Vascular Center by their primary care physician.
The main goals of the center include educating the health care and general
communities about the importance of early diagnosis and then assisting patients
in seeking treatment in a more coordinated way.
An advisory team of these physicians representing physicians from multiple
specialties meet regularly to focus on early identification of individuals at
risk and plan coordinated treatment approaches between cardiology, radiology and
surgery. These specialists work closely together to coordinate the delivery of
optimal and often cutting-edge technology to St. John’s patients.
For more information, please contact St. John’s Media Relations at 417-820-2426.
