Diabetes Education Program scheduled at St. John’s
St. Francis Hospital
Feb. 7, 2005
St. John’s St. Francis Hospital will host a diabetes education program on Feb.
21, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria.
“Mike Buxbaum, RN and education coordinator with St. John’s St. Francis Hospital
Surgery Department will speak on problem solving for blood sugar levels,”
explained Deanna Thompson, registered dietician and program coordinator.
“He will discuss some of the most common concerns including signs, symptoms and
causes; sick day rules; treatment, guidelines and prevention strategies and
safety concerns including driving and operating equipment,” she added.
As coordinator of the diabetes programs, Thompson has planned education programs
through May 2005. “Goals for the all the programs are to prepare participants to
make informed decisions, engage in effective diabetes self-management and
implement self-care behaviors that allow individuals to maximize their physical
and psychological well-being,” she said. “This specific program will provide
more information to diabetics and their families about problem solving for high
and low levels.
“The program focuses on a topic that is important to diabetics and I hope we can
provide information to this group to help them stay healthy and happy in their
daily lives.”
Anyone who has diabetes or is a supporting family member for someone with
diabetes is encouraged to attend. For more information about the Diabetes
