Women’s Heart offers new ‘Girls At Heart’ program
Oct. 1, 2005
St. John’s is celebrating the first anniversary of its Women’s Heart Center with
the debut of Girls At Heart, a new monthly program that offers heart-healthy
cooking demonstrations, education, support and friendship.
Girls at Heart, which is free to join, meets from 6-8 p.m. the last Tuesday of
each month at the Women’s Heart Center, located inside Hammons Heart Institute
on the St. John’s Hospital campus.
“In talking with women during their heart-health consultations, we have found
that many of them don’t necessarily have a strong support system in place to
encourage them to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle,” says Sheila Bowen, RN, BSN,
MA, Women’s Heart Center coordinator. “Girls At Heart offers that support and
camaraderie, along with education about exercise and heart-healthy meals on the
go and plenty of time for socializing. We recognize that many of these women are
still working outside the home and leading busy lives, so that’s why Girls At
Heart is an evening program.”
