St. John's Clinic Force for Good to donate $50,000 to The Kitchen
Dec. 6, 2004

St. John's Clinic representatives will present a $50,000 check to The Kitchen at a news conference Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 at The Kitchen's Community Outreach Center, 420 E. Blaine. (Behind the Missouri Hotel) This is the second year in a row St. John's Clinic has contributed substantially to The Kitchen, which provides shelter and other services for the needy.

The "Home For The Holidays" money will help approximately 400 underprivileged families provide rent, utilities and winter necessities to help them remain in their own homes for the holidays, according to Barbara Morgan, Kitchen spokeswoman.

St. John's Clinic co-workers and departments were encouraged to raise money in their own areas, many of which did through bake sales, fundraising luncheons and drawings. Those raising $120 or more were designated as Holiday Homebuilders.

"As the leading Clinic in the region, we believe we have an opportunity and, in fact, an obligation to care for the needy in our community," says Donn Sorensen, St. John's Clinic Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. "We are proud to help make a difference for families of The Kitchen this holiday season."

The Force for Good committee is led by St. John's Clinic physicians and co-workers is a part of St. John's Foundation for Community Health. The Foundation also contributed to the Holiday Homebuilders campaign.

The Force for Good's most recent endeavor was the "Clothe a Kid" campaign, which raised more than $40,000 through St. John's Clinic offices for the Springfield PTA's clothing bank - fully funding the estimated 1,200 Springfield Public Schools students in need of clothing this school year. Physicians and clinics in the Rolla area recently donated nearly $5,000 for basic apparel necessities, such as socks, shoes and underwear, for approximately 138 school-aged children. In the last year, St. John's Clinic Force for Good has raised over $100,000 for local charities.

St. John's Clinic consists of more than 460 physicians and 90 mid-level and allied health practitioners in Missouri and Arkansas. In total, St. John's Clinic provides medical services in over 70 offices in 35 communities covering 20,000 square miles. With approximately equal numbers of primary care and specialty physicians, St. John's Clinic covers all major specialties with special emphasis on cardiology, pediatric subspecialties, orthopedics/sports medicine, urology, neurosurgery, oncology and radiology.
St. John's Health System includes St. John's Clinic, six regional hospitals and St. John's Health Plans.
