St. John's Stroke Center focuses on strategic stroke care, which involves
treating stroke when symptoms are first noticed and following up with
patients after treatment.
Since 1999, the American Stroke Association
has recognized St. John's Stroke Center in Springfield as a
state-of-the-art, comprehensive center for stroke care. The center is one of
20 facilities in the U.S. that meets the full standards set forth by the ASA
for centers for stroke care.
The Stroke Center has also been recognized by
The Joint Commission with a Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke
Centers, and is one of eight Missouri stroke centers to have received this
recognition.
The stroke program at St. John's is the work
of a multidisciplinary team and often starts with emergency medical services
personnel and continues until the patient is discharged.
After stroke patients leave St. John's and return home, support is available
through a
stroke support group and
St.
John's Seniors' volunteer stroke ambassadors.

The Stroke Center is located on the first floor of St. John's Hospital (unit
