Many examples of success are featured in this magazine. We tell you
about ways we are improving community health through tobacco
cessation efforts on multiple fronts; how we focus on customer
service through a new hospital greeter program and show how we
wisely use new technology and drugs in the treatment of devastating
illnesses such as epilepsy.

Welcome to
the fall issue of St. John’s Healthy People magazine. The fall
season is often a time of new beginnings, such as the start of a new
school year and the time to prepare for upcoming holidays. This fall
marks a new beginning for myself and St. John’s as I step into my
new role as president and CEO of St. John’s Health System.
I am both humbled and excited by this new opportunity and thankful
to continue my commitment to an organization that I truly feel is
making a difference in the lives of our families, friends and
neighbors.
We
bid a fond farewell to my predecessor, Jay Eckersley, who took early
retirement in order to fulfill a call to serve a fulltime mission
with his wife, Ellen, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints.
Jay has been a great leader and mentor and leaves St. John’s at a
great time in our history.
I see nothing but a positive future for our integrated health
system. Our hospitals, St. John’s Clinic and St. John’s Health Plans
work together for uncommon results in increasing quality of health
care while reducing cost
Jay and Ellen Eckersley
trends and ensuring access to those truly in
need.
Thank you for your interest in St. John’s and for taking time to
read about it in Healthy People Magazine.
Sincerely,
Kim Day
