St. John’s facilities to go tobacco-free by Sept. 1
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is in the process of
finalizing a regulation that will make all health care locations
tobacco-free. These rules will apply to all patients, family members, and
co-workers at all St. John’s Health System locations, including hospitals,
clinics and other facilities.
With this regulation, facilities must be completely tobacco-free in order
to maintain their licensure. The Missouri Hospital Association has asked
all Missouri facilities to enact these rules by Sept. 1.
In an effort to make this transition as easy as possible at St. John’s, a
system-wide task force has been formed to plan the implementation. This
task force is co-chaired by Rob Brodhead, president, St. John’s Hospital,
and
J.T. Rogers, M.D., primary care department chair for St. John’s
Clinic. Members of the task force include smokers and non-smokers. St
John’s Hospital – Berryville’s campus has been tobacco-free since October
2005, when a similar Arkansas law took effect.
