New Medical Spa Opens in St. John's Surgery Center

While St. John’s has offered microdermabrasion, facials and alpha-hydroxy treatments for years at the plastic and reconstructive surgery clinics at Smith-Glynn-Callaway and Whiteside Medical buildings in Springfield, the extent of the spa services offered have been limited by space.

However, once St. John’s Clinic – Plastic Surgery relocates to the St. John’s Surgery Center at the corner of National and Seminole in Springfield in 2005, space will no longer be an issue.
The clinic will add a full-scale medical day-spa next door to its offices on the third floor of the surgery building. Board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons Rosellen Meystrik, M.D., Walt Gaska, M.D., Rodney Geter, M.D. and Steven Hughes, M.D., will come together in the new office at St. John’s Surgery Center, along with a team of experienced American Society of Plastic Surgical Nurses-certified nursing staff and certified medical aesthetic specialists.
“Our patients have asked us to expand our day-spa services, and we’ve talked about doing this for a long time,” Gaska says. “We think that physician-directed spa services are the next step in evolution in plastic and reconstructive surgery."

Nonsurgical enhancements also available at St. John’s Clinic – Facial Plastic Surgery

According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, facelift surgeries increased by nearly 50 percent last year, but AAFPRS immediate past president and St. John’s facial plastic surgeon Keith LaFerriere, M.D., says facelifts aren’t the only method of improving what you see in the mirror.
“There are many nonsurgical options that can improve the look and feel of your skin, especially for those needing subtle or temporary changes,” LaFerriere says. “Our office has an aesthetician who provides a comprehensive peel series that is customized to each individual’s skin type and treatment goals. Our services include an educational component to help our patients maintain the improvement they’ve achieved with a surgical or nonsurgical procedure.”

Other nonsurgical options available at the facial plastic office include:
• laser hair removal
• microdermabrasion
• pulse light for skin imperfections such as sun damage, age spots and broken blood vessels
• injectables such as Botox, Restylane, Hylaform, Cosmoderm and Zyderm

The office offers free educational seminars on facial plastic surgery. Call 417-887-3223 for a schedule.
