St. John’s
Emergency Department is equipped and staffed to provide excellent
emergency medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
We
maintain a friendly, service-oriented atmosphere for all patients
and their loved ones. Located within a tertiary referral medical
center, St. John’s Emergency Trauma Center provides a
comprehensive full-service emergency department.
St. John’s Hospital is a
state-designated Level 1 trauma center for adults and pediatrics,
a nationally certified Stroke Center, a Pediatric Hospital, and is
regionally recognized cardiovascular center of excellence.
Level I is the highest designation for
Emergency/Trauma care. Level I facilities are characterized by
24-hour staffing of surgeons and anesthesiologists, and prompt
access to care by specialists in orthopedic, neurosurgery,
emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine and critical
care. Additionally, Level I facilities offer educational,
preventative and outreach programs within the communities they
serve.
St. John’s emergency physicians are
all residency trained and/or board certified in emergency medicine
and our nursing staff has additional training and qualifications
specific to working in emergency medicine. Our staff provides 97
hours of physician coverage and 11 hours of additional coverage
with a nurse practitioner each 24-hour period.
A new state-of-the-art emergency
department (ED) opened on Feb. 1, 2005, and has 35 treatment rooms
in the main ED area and 10 treatment rooms in our acute care
center. Our staff members use a new electronic emergency
department information system (EDIS) that allows more efficient
patient tracking, order entry, and retrieval of laboratory and
radiology results.
