How The CyberKnife Works
..................................................................................................................................................
The CyberKnife combines two advanced
technologies to target tumors with radiation. The system uses an
image-guidance system to track and verify tumor location. This system
automatically adjusts and compensates for patient movement during treatment.
This eliminates the need for the painful head frame that less-advanced
radiosurgery systems require.
Combined with the image-guidance system is a
multi-joined robotic arm which provides the highest level of maneuverability
available. This flexible robotic arm, along with the image-guidance system,
makes it possible to access tumors that previously were unreachable – even
with conventional surgery.
What Sets CyberKnife
Radiosurgery Apart
¢ T4 Accuracy
The CyberKnife is the only
radiosurgery treatment system available with T4 or “tight to the tumor”
accuracy. This means that only the tumor receives the radiation while
healthy tissue nearby is spared.
¢ 100
Percent Frameless
The CyberKnife is the only radiosurgery system that does not
require the use of a painful head frame to prevent patient movement during
treatment. The combination of the image-guidance system and robotic arm
allow the system to compensate for patient movement, sparing patients from
the pain and inconvenience associated with the head frame.
¢
Painless Surgery
The CyberKnife allows patients to be treated in a comfortable
radiosurgery suite where painless “surgery” is performed with no incisions,
no blood loss, no anesthesia and little or no recovery time.
¢
Improved Quality of Life
The simple outpatient CyberKnife procedure allows patients to undergo
their treatment and immediately resume normal daily activities.
