Cancer is a life-changing diagnosis, and
patients and their families must absorb a lot of new information. They find
themselves making complex decisions about treatment and care.
St. John’s Patient Resource Program employs a
cancer resource nurse, Brenda Monroe, who can help patients through this
stressful time by providing education, access to resources and practical
support.
Brenda is an experienced
oncology nurse who is available to assist cancer patients and their families
in a variety of ways, from answering questions about the disease to finding
the right support group.
Her services are available to newly diagnosed
patients, as well as to those who have had a recurrence or long-standing
disease.
They include:
¢
Helping patients and family members use the Oncology Resource Manual
¢ “Navigating the System” class for
patients and family members.
¢
Serving as an educational resource to
patients and family members.
¢
Serving as a liaison between patients and
families and St. John’s health
care professionals.
¢
Helping address patient concerns, unmet needs or other issues that may
arise during the course of treatment.
